Madrid, New Mexico – Alchemy Studio owner and artist Lucy Barna took a leap of faith during the Covid-19 shutdown, leaving her job and opening an art gallery in the sleepy days of spring 2021. What started as a small working artist studio where Lucy would make her art jewelry and show the work of 3 other female artists, has since emerged to become a main destination for fine, contemporary art in Madrid, NM. Recently featured in Vogue Magazine, along with various national travel publications, Alchemy Studio has been recognized as a must-see destination for those visiting the Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas. Now in its third year, and representing over 13 female artists, Alchemy Studio has reason to celebrate.

Over the course of 3 years, Lucy has welcomed high-caliber art from women such as ceramicist Patty Bilbro, oil painter Brianne Janes, and coiled clay artist Laura Huertas. Recent additions in 2023 include fiber artists Diana Ruth and Leigh Oviatt (Oviatt was selected into SURFACE: New Mexico Emerging Artists Program this year, with a large exhibition at The Hardwood Art Center), jewelers Mia Battaglia and Annie Moon and many others. Lucy’s vision for the space, as well as her own work (Votive Designs jewelry) is ever-evolving, and there are new plans already on the horizon for 2024.
There will be a celebration of the various seasons of Alchemy Studio and its collection of women artists on Friday, October 13th from 4-7pm. Live music and refreshments will be provided, and many of the artists will be present to share about their work.
